A six-inch by six-inch commercial downspout was reduced down to a four-inch line using a crude homemade adapter. All the water coming off a large commercial roof has to choke through that connection, and any debris washing down the downspout gets stuck right at the bottleneck.
Commercial roofs move serious water
A commercial building sheds a huge volume of water during a Florida storm. The downspouts are sized big for a reason. When someone necks that flow down to a smaller line, the water has nowhere to go fast enough. It backs up the downspout, overflows at the building, and pools where it can damage the structure or the parking area.
The homemade adapter makes it worse. It is rough inside, so it snags leaves and grit, and the bottleneck clogs even faster.
What a real connection takes
A proper commercial connection uses a correctly sized adapter and a correctly sized line all the way through. No reducers fighting the flow, no improvised fittings. Drainage is fluid dynamics, not duct tape.
